It’s now that time after the summer vacation season to start thinking about children heading back to school. Just because our vacations have come to an end doesn’t mean that the sun has gone into hiding. The weather patterns have pre-longed the summer and something we will need to take into consideration when our children are returning to school. This especially for the youngest ones that spend most of their time in the schoolyard, outdoors, playing and enjoying the fresh air. The variables of the sun even if not on a full intensity and as apparent as during the summers hottest days are still there. We should not underestimate the suns UV rays during these days.
In Sweden, we often hear from pre-school teachers that we should always bring a change of clothing for the rainy days, but also instructions during early summer of applying sunscreen before we leave our children into the pre-school care. What happens after that and for the rest of the day in regards to applying more sunscreen? When do they know when to apply more sunscreen to keep the children protected?
The responsibility is all on the parents. We at Smartsun can relieve parents of some part of this responsibility and give educators, especially in pre-school, a tool that can indicate when it’s time to apply more sunscreen or when it’s time to bring in the children in the shade to avoid sunburn. Our UV-wristbands indicate with or without sunscreen when it’s time for more sunscreen or when the daily dose of UV has been reached and it’s time to take shade. The weather conditions do not have to be perfect, if dim, cloudy, hazy or shifting the UV-wristband shows true UV exposure.
